I document Nairobi, Kenya with the same intentions I document any other place . To reveal structure, to interrogate space, and to honor how people live. Medicine is never just a pill. When you think about it, a single tablet is a chain of people, knowledge, technology, regulation, labor, investment and distribution. Laboratory & Allied is a company born in Kenya that has spent decades trying to make essential medicine more available, affordable and accessible across Africa. For years, I abandoned myself by turning the camera toward other people. I became so devoted to telling their stories that I forgot I had a story worth telling too. I document Project Elimu with the same intentions I document any other place. To reveal structure, to interrogate space, and to honour how people create possibility within it. Often it takes around 21 days to build or break a habit. Martin, a 23-year-old musician, has committed himself to quitting cigarettes and redirecting that energy towards his music. In Nairobi's Kibera settlement, a community of older persons continues to shape their life, preserve collective memory, care for one another, and contribute to their community while navigating the realities of aging, health challenges, and social invisibility. It takes 20-21 days to change or develop a habit. Martin, a 23 year old artist decides to embark on a journey of quitting cigattes and focus on his music talent. I document Rongai with the same intentions I document any other place . To reveal structure, to interrogate space, and to honor how people live. I have often wondered, What kinds of futures are shaped in classrooms, football fields, and conversations that encourage consent, self-worth, and leadership? What does it mean for a community to invest in its young people? What becomes possible when young girls are given the language, confidence and support to make informed decisions about their lives?
