Seen and Unseen. Our upcoming exhibition by The Locals Research & Storytelling Exchange aims to challenge audiences to reconsider whose voices are heard, whose experiences are acknowledged, and whose stories continue to exist in the margins.
“We Are Speaking. Are You Listening?”, the exhibition asks a simple yet urgent question: What happens when communities have always been speaking, but few have taken the time to listen?
Because being seen is only the beginning.The deeper question is whether we are truly listening.

Every Day Life was our first collective photography exhibition—a milestone that brought together photographers, storytellers, journalists, friends and members of the public to reflect on the beauty, complexity, and humanity found in ordinary life. The exhibition challenged the idea that only extraordinary events deserve attention. Instead, it celebrated the everyday moments, people, and places that shape our communities and define our shared experiences.
Featuring the work of Anwar Sadat Swaka, Kelvin Juma, Jeremiah Onyango, and Ramadhan Karali , the exhibition presented diverse visual narratives that explored identity, place, memory, resilience, and community.
As our first exhibition, Every Day Life laid the foundation for future exhibitions, research projects, and storytelling initiatives.

The Sebuleni Exhibition: Friends and Family invited audiences to reflect on one of the most fundamental aspects of our lives—the relationships that shape who we are. Through documentary photography, the exhibition explored friendship, kinship, belonging, and the everyday moments that define community beyond traditional ideas of family.
One idea from the exhibition that continues to resonate within our work is that:
“The work only starts at the photo.”
